Who on earth could be pestering you this early in the morning? Ah. It's the Fae.

"Terribly sorry for bothering you, new resident! It's just that we have something exciting to tell you! We're sending you on a vacation!"

A vacation...? Don't you get a say in this? No, you do not. The Fae continue chittering excitedly.

"You haven't been here long, so you probably don't know this, but there's a beautiful seaside region called Villanelle here! It's quite snobby, but it's just incredible! It really looks wonderful at this time of year. And they have winter markets on all through the month! There's games, and ocean scenery, and boats, and shops, and food, and just ... everything!! You need to experience it. This is why we've decided to send you! Now, close your eyes!"

Close your eyes? Well, it seems like you can't get out of this. You hear the shimmering of their magic wands as your body is swirled into light, before you feel a tickling sensation on the top of your head and your lower back. The fairies have used their magic to give you the ears and tail of an animal!

"Ta-da! Now, we really mean it when we say they're snobby. Those who live in Villanelle are all about appearances. It makes a huge impression! And you might not have enough magic to transform yet. We'll give you some coins as an allowance, so go out there and have fun, buy things, and make lots of fruit!"

They didn't say anything about being paid back, which seems like a fair trade. And of course, an alternative scenario exists for those who already have animal ears and tails (or the ability to spawn them.) The Fae will discuss amongst themselves on what to do in order to create a show of attraction to the residents of Villanelle, before they decide to poof some ornaments and accessories onto your existing tail and ears! Maybe a big ribbon, or some earrings, or some other kind of sparkly jewellery. Perhaps there might be someone in mind that you want to go with, and the Fae will allow you to go and knock on their cottage so that you may travel together.

Once you and the Fae are content, they'll magically poof you to Villanelle!

Welcome to Villanelle! With your brand new tail and ear set, it's time to go and explore this coastal town. Although it's a little bit cold outside, the sea breeze still feels incredibly refreshing on your skin. There is a general sense of warmth and togetherness present in this place at this time of year. Among the hustle and bustle you can see that the busy streets are lined with overhead lights, illuminating the sight of the market stalls which are hosted by many vendors! There are games booths, food stalls and furniture stalls! The fairies have given you a bag of coins to spend here which should be enough for some games, food, furniture and a night in the tavern.

Let's see what the markets have in store for us, shall we? One of the main attractions here are the furniture stalls! The Fae have given you enough coins to buy 4 pieces of furniture, which all come from the seasonal catalogue! For a bonus piece of furniture, you can enter a raffle to receive something random from the clearance bin. Who knows what you'll get! Reply to this toplevel here in order to enter the raffle! The games booths feature simple games like hook a duck, ring toss and archery. For every game played, you will receive a coupon for some stylish winter clothing! It shouldn't be a surprise that these are the prizes. After all, the residents of Villanelle prioritise style above all else.

Oooh, something smells good! Look at all this street food! These eye-catching stalls selling winter cookies, fairy popsicles, coffee & tea and baked goods! On their own, the food and drink items will have no effect on a person. The vendors at the stall will ask you if you want a sprinkle of magic on your food. If you agree, one of the following four effects will take hold:

❖ Winter cookies will fill you with sudden feelings of bravery! If you are feeling shy or intimidated about being in this place, this rush of courage will serve you right. You will feel very unafraid of talking to storeowners when buying furniture, visiting the game booths, or even mingling with others here! What's stopping you from enjoying every attraction that Villanelle has to offer?

❖ Fairy popsicles will cause a bit of a cheeky fairy trick! You will get the hiccups and only a kiss will make them go away. It can be on the forehead, the cheek, or the lips. You don't know why or how, but you somehow know that the solution for your own effect is a healing kiss. What's a good way of explaining this to someone?

❖ Coffee & Tea will fill you with warmth from the inside out. Ahh, what could be better than a hot beverage in the snow? Except ... with every sip you take, more and more of your body transforms into an animal, until you are finally fully transformed into one! This curse will only be broken when someone carries you around in their arms for an hour straight. Good luck!

❖ Baked goods will taste so good with every bite, except after finishing one ... you find yourself feeling very cold all of a sudden. Just like you have a sudden craving for even more warmth and comfort! Maybe it's time to visit a hot spring, a tavern, or to find an inn to retire in for the night.

Fairytale stories always seem to include the mention of wishes being granted one way or another. Wouldn't it be nice to experience such a thing for real? Well ... in Fable, you certainly can! After the Villanelle market celebrations, you would've likely heard the locals mentioning the wishing pool that exists through the hanging willow trees and down past the lotus rivers. If you decide to go and seek out the wishing pool, you will find an incredible glowing pond with colourful fish darting around in the water. These are wish fish, and they'll happily grant your wish in exchange for one pebble. After picking up the shiniest, prettiest pebble you can find, toss it into the water and ... make a wish!

There are boats floating in the harbour that anyone can use to sail around the beautiful shores of Villanelle! For safety, it is advised that guests go out together in pairs. You could head out with another person in two separate boats, or share the same boat with each other. It's completely up to you!

There are gorgeous sea coves to explore and there are rumours that you may encounter a mythological creature. It shouldn't be too bad since both of you are here together, right? Regardless, it sounds like a fun adventure to go on.

While riding out in the boats, you may experience an encounter with a magical sea creature! These beings generally mean no harm, they show genuine curiosity and seek a good time.

❖ Encountering a Sea Dragon will be a fun experience indeed. These slippery little creatures have no fear - they jump straight onto your boat! It seems they're curious enough to crawl all across your arms, your legs and on your head while sniffing you with their tickling little nostrils. Maybe they're allergic to you because they sneeze bubbles on you - magical bubbles which cause you to start talking more about yourself! Any unfiltered thought is now coming to light with thanks to these curious dragons.

❖ Encountering a Kelpie embark you on a magical water ride. Saddle up, cowboy! These Kelpies haven't been ridden in so long and they're dying for some fun. They're going to nudge you off your boat and take you on a long ride, until they stop at a rock pool cove to take a break. The rock pool will have all sorts of shiny treasures and trinkets waiting to be discovered - maybe you'll find something nice to take back with you! Afterwards, the Kelpies will safely give you a ride back to your boat.

❖ Encountering a Mermaid will fill your ears with the most beautiful singing voice you have ever heard. Her song is a magical enchantment that warms you from the inside out with strong feelings of love. Before long, you find that she swims up to the boat and rests her arms on the deck, before sighing wistfully. "... Tell me about the person you love the most." Because of her siren song, you feel compelled to talk about the person you love most of all! Whether it's romantic, platonic, or familial, you can't hold yourself back from gushing about them to the person you're on this boat ride with.

❖ Encountering a Selkie will ... oh my goodness. Look at them. How can one wonderful creature be so content? I'm telling you, these Selkies know how to live life. Very slowly, they pat their fins on the ground beside them. "Come relax." And who can refuse an offer like that? You dock your boat on the shore and feel extraordinarily calm. Thanks to the pollen of the Villanelle flowers, you curl up and go to sleep in a flower bed, before you get to experience a shared dream with the person who has joined you here.

There are a few limitations, so please keep these in mind!

Characters cannot wish for:

✿ More wishes. (C'mon, that's such an old trick!)

I wish for some way to not be so lonely at times.

The Wish Fish hear you loud and clear, little friend. Fortunately, they think they have a solution! They create a patchwork unicorn plushie infused with lavender to soothe and comfort. It's a magical plushie that seems to turn warmer when cuddled. It may not be a real person, but it'll never go missing and be a perfect companion to snuggle when those lonely feelings arise.

✿ Survival horror boat rides that aren't actually that horror but aren't great either.
✿ Maybe she knocks back a few winter cookies and makes some impulse purchases or talks someone into wearing a hat.
✿ Her carrying around someone turned into an animal for an hour straight?

Interested In:
✿ Someone who'll keep Irene from her wariness. She might want to roll for initiative and fight a kelpie or scream as a sea dragon crawls up her arm. She's used to sea creatures wanting to literally eat her, or have her eat them, and convert her to being a part of their hivemind. Irene can adjust and learn her assumptions are wrong, but it'll be helpful if there's someone with her as she tenses up at the sight of a selkie. Remind her that rules are different in different worlds, that sort of thing.

(It's like someone helping a dragonslayer adjust to not all dragons wanting to eat them.)

Gosh, Irene. They're friendly!! She thinks... Maybe Tsubaki could help her out with that?

Yeah, see, I pulled Irene specifically after two events in her gacha game featuring her and the region she's from in general, in which she has to deal with talking aquatic creatures trying to eat/assimilate her. "It'll be fine," I said. "She'll probably have a few months to gather CR before this sea thing becomes relevant, if it does," I said.

And then I saw this event. I laughed.

Anyway, let's do this. It'll be pretty easy to justify her heading out there in general (curiosity, investigating threats before they go after people, etc al), and I made sure to have her sans weapons for now so we don't have to worry about a floating selkie corpse, but she might need Tsubaki to keep her from instinctively trying to smack a kelpie (or whatever) in the face with a rowboat paddle.
